The Positive Power of Some

I have found in my life that I tend to be an all-or-nothing type of person.  I am either going to only eat health food or eat any junk food I want.  I am either going to be completely on top of our financial situation with stringent budgets or just spend freely.  I was considering just today the positive power of some. Today I only had about half an hour to mow part of the lawn and everything within me said that I either had to mow the entire lawn of mow none of the lawn - all-or-nothing.  The thought came to mind that I could mow the part of the lawn which grows the most quickly and is most visible to the public eye. "Nay" my inner all-or-nothing voice said, "you should probably just go watch Netflix!" I started wondering if that was God talking to me or someone else.  I realized that I would get a little exercise, I would feel good about my property and myself, my lawn would look better and my wife would be happier if I just mowed some of my lawn over the ne...

Unchained But Not Free

We had an old dog that we inherited about a dozen years ago when she was already a mother.  As she has gotten  older  she has developed some interesting (sometime aggravating) quirks.  Among other things, she does not like to go outside if it is wet, she stands directly behind anyone who is home (which causes stumbles and near falls repeatedly), and her stomach cannot handle people  food  but she begs for it with pleading eyes. We can be just that...

Competing GPS Directions

My wife, daughter and I were traveling from New York to Georgia to help our youngest son move to a different base a few hours away from his current base.  As is normal these days we were being guided on our trip by the verbal commands of a GPS map service on my smartphone.  At one point I asked my wife if she could get directions to the nearest location of a certain restaurant.  She did a GPS map search for that restaurant on her phone and found that there was one nearby and started the verbal commands for directions to the restaurant.  When the directions for the restaurant asked us to take the next exit I did so.  What happened next was comical, the verbal commands on my phone which were guiding us to our final destination began telling us to come to the stop sign and turn left so that we could get back on the interstate, while the verbal commands for the restaurant on my wife's phone told us to turn right.  Since I could not see which phone was giving wh...
